Smoke Bluffs Parking
Squamish, BC
V0N 1T0
Our clinics will be held in the Smoke Bluffs and in South Chek, Cheakamus canyon.
The Bluffs are only a 10 minute pleasant walk from the campsite. The park offers a huge selection of easy-access high quality crags, with routes from 5.4 to 5.13d – some bolted and others requiring traditional protection to lead. Many of the crags have safe access to the top to set up top ropes. In the event of rain, most clinics will still run, as we can shelter under overhangs and focus on technical systems and discussion. The Bluffs face south and are exposed to the wind, so some climbs are dry within minutes after the rain!
South Chek is about a 15-20 minutes by car from the campsite followed by a steep 5 minutes approach on slightly loose terrain to get to the crag. Electric Avenue features slab to vertical routes in the ranges of 5.3 to 5.12b – all bolted.

CLINICS
Intro to Trad Climbing with Keenan Gibson (They/He)
Trad climbing, short for traditional climbing, is when you place your own removable protection in the rock while climbing.
We’ll start off delving into the intricacies of placing and removing nuts and cams. Then we’ll get up on the rocks and practice our gear placements! There will be lots of opportunities for questions and feedback. We can also touch on anchor building and/or basic crack climbing movement techniques.
Mindfulness on the Rock with Tiffany Melius and Amanda Bischke
What happens when you face a challenge while rock climbing? How do you react or behave?
This workshop aims to build awareness around our mental habits. We’ll talk about tools we can use to feel less stressed and more confident on the wall. Our discussion is participant-led, so bring an open mind as well as your personal thoughts and questions.
2SLGBTQIA+ Intro to Rock with CJ Rowe (They/Them)
This is a space for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks to learn the basics of roped up rock climbing with a queer and non-binary instructor.
We’ll start by learning how to put on a harness and tie into the rope. Once we’re geared up your instructor will set up the ropes and teach you how to belay. We’ll have plenty of time to climb and discuss some basic movement techniques with a focus on body empowerment and fun!
2SLGBTQIA+ Learn to Lead (sport) with Ren Lavergne (They/Them)
This is a space for 2SLGBTQIA+ climbers looking to build their confidence and skill to lead climb with a queer and non-binary instructor.
Learn the skills necessary to start leading single pitch bolted climbs outdoors. We’ll cover clipping, lead belaying, anchor building and anchor cleaning. This is a two-day course, participants are expected to be present for both days of the program.
Rock rescue with Bridget MacMurray (She/Her)
You’ve gained the experience and learned the skills to start climbing on the Chief! But, do you know what to do if something goes wrong?
What happens if you drop your belay device or your partner falls? We’ll cover the basics of rope rescue such as tying off the belay, raising a climber and lowering a climber and tandem rappels. Further rescue techniques will be taught depending on time and group interest.
First Aid for Climbers with Moira O'Keeffe (She/Her)
This workshop is designed to equip you with essential tools for recognizing and responding to medical emergencies while out climbing. Together we’ll discuss common climbing-related injuries and work through scenarios tailored specifically to climbers, addressing a range of situations from minor ankle sprains while bouldering to more severe incidents in alpine environments. We will not be roped up for this workshop.
IWO climbing with Cassie Ayoungman (She/Her)
This is a specialty clinic for scholarship recipients from Indigenous Women Outdoors.

SNS Climbing with Aarohi Patel (She/Her)
This is a specialty clinic for scholarship recipients through the Squamish Newcomers Services, a local support space and network for newcomers, including immigrants and refugees.
We’ll learn how to put on a harness, tie ourselves to the rope and belay - climbing terminology for holding the rope while your partner climbs. There will be plenty of time to climb and learn some basic movement techniques! This program is not available to the general public.

All About Anchors with Bridget MacMurray (She/Her)
What makes climbing in Squamish so accessible? We have the ability to walk to the top of many of the cliffs, meaning you don’t need to know how to lead climb to get outdoors and start climbing!
In this course we will cover everything you need to know in order to top rope climb outside safely with a friend, including equipment selection, how to build anchors and understanding a guidebook.
Intro to Rock with CJ Rowe (They/Them)

Fear of Falling with Tiffany Melius and Keenan Gibson
Does the fear of falling impact your enjoyment or performance in rock climbing? Join us as we explore gentle falling in a fun and supportive environment. We’ll start small and work on expanding each climber's comfort zone, which may look different for each individual climber. We’ll learn some falling progressions that you can incorporate into your everyday climbing and discuss the psychology around what makes us scared. We will also discuss risk management and practice the art of soft catches.
